Bonjour, tout le monde. Je m’appelle Brian et j’ai dix-sept ans. Je suis étudiant à St. Paul’s et je suis en première. Quand je ne suis pas à l’école, j’habite à Durham en Caroline du Nord, dans le sud-est des Etats-Unis. J’habite avec mon frère Julian qui a vingt ans, ma mère et mon chien Jake. Mon frère est étudiant à l’université. Il deviendra un homme d’affaires quand il terminera ses études. Quand je suis à l’école, j’aime bien passer du temps avec mes amis et écouter de la musique. Mes cours préférés sont les maths, l’espagnol, et bien sûr le français. En automne, je joue au football américain. Aussi, je suis membre de « Amnesty International », de l’équipe de débat et des jeunes démocrates. Ça c’est un peu de moi, et j’espère qu’on deviendra des bons amis internationaux !

Brian is a family name in our school. Does your name have a meaning? It must have one. Ms Windsor suggested names as a topic of discussion. This could lead to a fruitful discussion.
When I asked my father about the origin of our family name, he told me a real long story. Would you lke to know?

I don’t know how naming goes on in your place ,but in old Morocco when a man gets married he may keep his father’s name or change it. My father decided to choose an other name. Once in the registration office he was asked “what would be the new name?” He said he had no idea.The officer then asked him “do you go by any name or do your friends give you any nickname?”My father answered “in the place where I work my co-workers always ask me to sing them songs of the Egyptian well-know singer:KAHLAOUY because they say my singing helps them with their hard work and alleviates the heavy load.” And so we came to be named KAHLAOUY.
PS in modern Morocco now we have to keep the father’s name ;otherwise you take your case to court and they will look into it.

Le nom “Brian” est irlandais et il veut dire “fort, vertueux, et noble.” Il est un nom commun aux États-Unis, en Irlande, au Canada, et aux autres pays anglophones. Le nom vient d’un roi irlandais du siècle onzième.
